Kangaroos coach Kevin Walters has chosen Reece Walsh ahead of James Tedesco at fullback for Australia's Rugby League World Cup opener. Walters outlined his thinking for leaving Tedesco out, with reports linking Tedesco's NRL grand final performance to the call.
The decision has raised eyebrows across the rugby league community, given Tedesco's reputation as an elite fullback. It is one of the more debated picks heading into the tournament.
Jack Preston was also included in the side, getting his first Kangaroos selection. Preston's inclusion adds depth to the squad as Australia builds toward the World Cup campaign.
